DBS Checks: What You Need to Know as a Professional Nanny

At Nest & Kin, we’re committed to providing families with trustworthy, high-quality childcare—and that begins with safeguarding. That’s why all of our nannies are required to have a valid Enhanced DBS check before being placed with a family.

If you’re new to the nanny world (or just need a refresher), here’s what a DBS check is, why it’s important, and how we help you get one.

Why You Need an Enhanced DBS Check

There are different levels of DBS checks, but for nannies and childcare roles, the Enhanced DBS Check with Barred List is the most appropriate. It covers:

• Spent and unspent convictions

• Cautions, warnings, and reprimands

• Relevant information held by police

• Checks against the Children’s Barred List (to confirm you’re legally allowed to work with children)

At Nest & Kin, we only place nannies who hold a valid Enhanced DBS check.
